Routine Cleanse

Routine: it’s good, but it can be very, very bad. And mind-numbing.

You drive to work the same way every day. You eat the same breakfast. You make lists the same way. You read the same collection of books. You talk to the same people. You drink your coffee the same way.

Shall I go on?

I won’t.

[This post is part of my 101 Day of Blogging series, inspired by Experience Life magazine’s 101 Revolutionary Ways to Be Healthy, authored by Pilar Gerasimo.]

What should you do differently?

I know what should do differently:
– Go to the gym on dedicated days or at least go for a walk, turned jog, turned sprint, turned walk, turned jog, turned sprint. See statement No.2 – but you should read the whole thing, because this writer has really great advice.
I used to be really good at my workout routine. It was healthy.

– There’s a certain number of people you should allow yourself to be influenced by on the ‘Net, just like you should be aware of the five people you spend the most time with aside from family/co-workers. Do you know who those ‘Net people are? When their birthday is coming up, do you really need a Facebook reminder, or do you have their address handy in order to send them a card?
‘Net people (for me — and I don’t have birthday’s memorized, yet)) as of today: Nora Purmort (helping people), Erica Hana (great creative/business advice), Sarah Kay Hoffman (yummy recipes), Arik Hanson (tech/networking/creative advice), and I’m working on “lucky No. 5.”
The non-‘Net people? They know who they are.

What I should watch every day on my laptop when my alarm goes off? This:

…Until I get sick of it. Which will probably be never. Because I have class, style and great taste. Sometimes, it’s expensive. Why would I watch it every morning? It plants a seed a my head and reminds me of what I’m working hard for.

Much like the script says, I’ve grown to trust my gut, keep my head down and overcome my fear of giants. My definition of “Giants” is that they usually have a bigger bank account than me. If I grow to learn who they are on the inside, then, I’ll be ready for my opportunity when I’m ready to Strike.

That’s a healthy routinely reminder.

But, I’ve defined Community and Commonality, for myself really, and each blog post within those links explains where the reasoning for the root of why I make the decisions I do when a choice is offered to me. I don’t expect you to read them and find your magic wand. I do hope these help you seek yours out.

How do you organize your life? How often do you “clear your cache?” I’m asking because I can’t make the root of a decision I’m proud of unless I understand what it is I want.

I can practice my own medicine (mentally + physically) without a license.

Practice without a License
Truth: I have done a horrible no-good job of blogging every day since I found out about this #100DaysofBlogging through a ‘Net acquaintance I met several years ago. I don’t even know what Day of writing I should be on.

I know what I need to do to help myself get there. I believe we need routine 24/7. I think a morning and evening routine is great. You can have some in the middle as well, but don’t become predictable. That’s not fun for anyone.

Routine. What’s yours and what have you done to shake it up lately?

Stand, but don’t stay in the middle,
Rachel
