Think twice before clicking the unfollow function

I talked about why you might be considering unfollowing someone to rid their “noise” in your social feeds in this video at 7:17. I use the term “noise” very loosely because respectively, I have no idea what else to call it.

Coincidentally enough, I hopped into #JobHuntChat on Monday night and ran into this guy:

At one point or another, we had both made a decision to unfollow each other. No hard feelings. None…at least on my end. I think I had had enough of seeing nothing but job listings in my feed and I was feeling very defeated in my search but I am happy with my line of work and what I do presently. Josh was working for a company that I won’t mention, whose main intent was to get as many people hired through their job postings to keep the circle of life (and investors) happy. That’s got to be a really tough gig. (h/t to you, Josh)

I never reached out to Josh before I unfollowed him (as I suggested you could in the video) and I mentioned in the video link above that if you want to take the time to ask someone why their interests have changed (and you would assume this based solely from what they’re tweeting) before you officially decide to unfollow them, reach out and ask if they’ve made a career change.

Why not?

What do you have to lose?

I honestly think that if you’re reading this right now, there is a really really good chance you have not taken that extra step before clicking the “unfollow” button. And you probably have a “yeah right” grin on your face, too.

That’s fine. But the next time you decide to click that button, I bet that if you’ve read this post, you’ll maybe, just maybe think twice.

And what that said, let’s talk about this lovely circle of life of bringing your “social” back to life.

You can read part one here and part two here.
